VIDEO WALL INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

Video Wall
Practical AV offer expertise and experience in video wall installation. We offer a full service, from site survey and concept building, through to system design and full installation, service and support.

Video walls combine multiple screens into single image and multi-image displays, or in more advanced implementations to achieve geometric or natural patterns with distributed images.

The technology behind the scenes ranges from simple daisy-chaining of displays, through to specialist scaling and mapping engines to manipulate digital content onto complex screen arrays.

Key considerations when thinking about a video wall are:

  • the physical siting and installation challenges
  • behind-the-scenes cabling and hardware
  • image resolution, scaling, rendering and colour balance
  • scheduling and scenarios for different digital content
  • control and automation

VIDEO WALL SOLUTION
SPARKEN HILL ACADEMY, WORKSOP, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE.
The challenge was to build a 800Kg, 16 panel video display measuring 4.8m wide x2.7m high – on a stud wall and without visible support structures i.e. a floating video wall.

The images below show the project from start to finish.   After applying a basic set of steel struts to the internal wall to act as a sub-frame, a robust structure was then built behind it in adjacent rooms.  This provided us with the “floating” frame upon which to mount the rest of the video wall components.  The B-Tech System X components were then carefully positioned using laser levels, and adjusted – these aluminium horizontals provide a solid slide rail which will eventually receive the TV mounts and TV’s themselves.

After ensuring the frame and rails were secure, the cable loom was fitted.  This provided the power to the screens, 16 individual HDMI cables plus Network RJ45, RS232, Infra-red control cables.  All cables were routed back to a small data cabinet mounted behind the screen wall.

Screens are then mounted individually and adjusted for horizontal level and planarity.  Once all screens are powered and connected, the individual parametric adjustments are made to ensure an even colour and brightness, plus the ECO and power settings can be adjusted to give a “staggered start” – avoiding power surges from all screens starting at once.

The scale of the display, plus the intensity of the colours speak for themselves.
